Brazilian Jiu Jitsu
Atlanta Budokan is now offering Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) is a martial art, combat sport and self-defense system that focuses on grappling and especially ground fighting. Atlanta Budokan is an associate branch of Alliance Brazillian Jiu Jitsu. Alliance is known around the world as one of the elite BJJ training programs under head instructor Romero “Jacare´” Cavalcanti. We offer complete instruction at our Acworth location.
Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was derived from the Japanese matial art of Kodokan judo and Jujutsu in the early 20th century. Both BJJ and Judo are martial arts that developed into sport, allowing those practicing them to train with an emphasis on physical fitness, character and a way of life (Do). Just as in Japanese style jujutsu, BJJ promotes the principle that a smaller, weaker person can successfully defend against a larger, stronger assailant by using leverage and proper technique—most notably by applying joint-locks and chokeholds to defeat the other person. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu can be trained for sport grappling tournaments (gi and no-gi), mixed martial arts (MMA) competition or self-defense. Sparring (commonly referred to as ‘rolling’) and live drilling play a major role in training, and a premium is placed on performance, especially in competition. At Atlanta Budokan, our focus on BJJ is for self-defense and sport grappling tournaments.
This class is open to both men and women age 13 and over, of all fitness levels and martial arts experience. Children under 13 who are currently in our Kid’s Aiki-Jujutsu program and show a dedication to the art may add BJJ by invitation.
